Tennis
Facilities and opportunities for all
Students of all standards have the chance to participate in individual tennis lessons throughout the year. On site we have 7 Hard Courts, of which 4 are floodlit, and 9 Astro-Turf Courts. The School also has a Winter Indoor Court.
Training stars of the future
The Millfield Preparatory School Tennis Programme has been in effect since 1998 and is currently run by former Scottish Number 1 Nicola Payne. We run development squads all year round and provide a performance environment for our national standard juniors. The elite players also train at the Senior School Indoor Centre, interacting with the older players in matchplay and squad sessions.
Millfield Preparatory can offer a tennis specific programme catering for all aspects of the game such as SAQ Training Nutrition and Individual Tuition. The players still have the opportunity to participate in other sports, allowing a more balanced schedule. As well as representing the School most Millfield Preparatory first squad players have been selected to represent their county and some have gained national future status. Former pupils have represented Great Britain at junior level and others have progressed to play on the senior professional circuit achieving a world ranking.
In 2007, the boys’ and girls’ teams were runners up at the Year 8 and Under British Schools National Championships. In the IAPS (Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools) event our pupils are frequently champions. In the Year 6, 5, 3 and Under British Schools Mini-Tennis Competition we are often County Champions and Finalists.
Exciting trips
We run trips to the Davis Cup and to the Wimbledon Championships which is invaluable experience for our players.
