Riding

Riding has been established at Millfield Prep School since 2003. 20 ponies are stabled in a picturesque converted farmyard in a modern barn system, as well as five conventional stables. Two all-weather arenas are sited adjacent to the stables. Turn out and acres of off-road riding are also sited in the school grounds.

Five full-time members of staff live in the farmhouse on site, and the whole riding centre is on campus in easy walking distance from the school and boarding houses.

A number of pupils keep their own ponies at livery, enabling them to ride every day and take lessons with our instructors. School ponies are available for those pupils who do not have their own ponies. Lessons are scheduled before school, at lunchtimes and after school. Pupils of all standards are catered for. Pupils who have their own ponies at school and have attained the required standard of competence, attend competitions regularly throughout the term, including inter-schools competitions.

For the les experienced riders, ‘own-a-pony’ days are scheduled at weekends for pupils to learn about pony care, stable management and basic riding skills.
