Boarding
Five comfortable boarding houses with character
Millfield Preparatory School currently has approximately 160 boarding pupils and 5 comfortable and well-facilitated boarding houses – Berewall, Champion House, Hollies House, Chestnut and Edgarley Manor - to accommodate them, all either on or very close to the main campus. Each has its own character, being single sex with age-appropriate bedrooms and range in size from 32 – 38 beds.
Friendly houseparents, assistants and matrons
The houses are run by a married couple who have children of their own and who strive to create a warm and relaxed family atmosphere for the boys and girls from all over the world who are in their care. They are ably supported by a resident assistant and a visiting tutor who are also teaching members of staff and a host of house matrons. The houses are regularly visited in the evenings by the Headmaster and his wife, and the Chaplain. Houseparents liase regularly with your child's Group Tutor and Head of Year.
Boarders enjoy going home in the evening without taking the cares of the day with them. At the weekends there is never a dull moment and the children are spoilt for choice. There is always a full programme of organised games and activities, and trips out to places of fun and interest.
Exeats (Weekend Days Away)
There are two exeats in the Autumn and Spring Terms and one in the Summer Term. For one of the exeats in the Autumn and Spring Terms (usually the first), pupils may be collected from Friday 4.00pm until Sunday 8.00pm. For the second exeat in these terms, pupils may be collected at 12.10pm on Saturday, providing they have no further School commitments, and must be returned by 8.00pm on Sunday. For the exeat in the Summer Term, pupils may be picked up at 12.10pm, as above, and must be returned by 8.00pm on Sunday.
Additionally, boarders are also allowed out on Sundays with parental permission. They may leave at approximately 10.45am and must be returned by 8.00pm.
"Being a boarder is a great experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. You learn to become independent and more caring for others around you and you develop different living skills". Catherine and Helena, both aged 12.
