Talented Millfield Preparatory School pupil Zachary M, aged 8 from Glastonbury, won the U13 category of the Ian Ritchie Talent Competition held in Strode Theatre, Street, on Saturday 26th April.

Four acts made up the final in which Zachary played three pieces on the Jazz Piano. Zachary was the youngest performer on the night and impressed both the judges and the audience with his natural musical flare. He received a large plaque to keep for the year and £200 in prize money.

Contestants for the Ian Ritchie competition attended auditions on 6th April from which only half who entered made it to the finals. The event was sponsored by Mid Somerset Newspapers and dedicated to the memory of Ian Ritchie, a performer who spent his life encouraging local talent. This year, the competition celebrated its tenth anniversary.
