Eating for Swimming

The swimming squad at Millfield Preparatory School have had a great deal of success this season. The boys and girls train hard throughout the year and their diligence is rewarded when they regularly achieve National Qualifying Times at major events.

The school is very conscious of the need to encourage, while at the same time protect, the welfare of its athletes. To this end, the swimmers in Years 7 and 8 were very lucky to have a nutritionist come and talk to them. Penny Hunking has written 23 books on nutrition, has worked with many different successful sportspeople and specialises in swimming nutrition.

The swimmers learnt about the importance of eating the right foods and how best to fit in essentials such as carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables. They were also given top tips on what foods to eat, and when, during competition.
