Why Millfield Prep?
Preparing individuals for whatever they choose to do in life
Millfield was founded on the explicit belief that children are unique individuals who deserve the highest standards of care and attention. We are a friendly and happy school which offers each child a breadth and depth of experience in every aspect of their lives. We encourage pupils to be considerate, generous and tolerant of others, to do well in their academic work and in other pursuits, be they musical, dramatic, artistic or sporting. We believe that it is important for children to grow as individuals and to take responsibility for their actions. We encourage pupils to think for themselves, but also be part of a team, whether it is a Science project, on the sports field or in the choir. We help them with their leadership skills which will stand them in good stead for the future. They learn that each and every one of them has talent and personality which will be developed by the range of opportunities available to them. Pupils quickly acquire a love of learning in a happy, stimulating and disciplined environment.
Unlike some UK preparatory schools that finish at age 11, we firmly believe that it is of benefit to our pupils to finish Prep at 13 years of age. Enjoying this nurturing environment past the age of 11 enables them to build on their skills and garner the self-confidence and maturity so important for the next step in their education.
Providing an all-round education
We aim to provide a fulfilling and balanced education so that your child will leave us confident and friendly, with an enthusiasm for life and an awareness of the world around them. Although Millfield is world-renowned for its sporting excellence, the children achieve superb academic results and there is great strength in Music, Art and Drama. Besides a well structured academic programme provided by high quality staff, we also offer a superb range of over 50 extra-curricular activities, giving them the chance to try almost everything.
Small class sizes and outstanding opportunities
The school offers many outstanding opportunities for pupils to develop their particular talents. As our class sizes are small, with a staff:pupil ratio of 1:8, each child's needs can be identified and addressed. Our classrooms are spacious and well equipped and although many traditional methods of teaching are still used, we go beyond this by promoting the excitement of learning through discovery, investigation and imaginative play.
The Millfield Mix
With equal numbers of girls and boys (on average 50% of each) sharing our excellent facilities, Millfield Prep provides a realistic working and social environment for our pupils where they can draw from each other's strengths and views.
Millfield Prep is proud of our local, national and international mix of pupils. We believe this Millfield Mix encourages our pupils to share their cultural experiences with one another to enhance their understanding of the world around them.
