Millfield Prep pupils lead tennis rankings
Two tennis players from Millfield Preparatory School currently occupy top positions in the UK youth rankings.
Finn Bass came second at the recent Winter National Tour finals to earn the under-12 number two spot and join schoolmate and former U12 singles and doubles number one Luke Hammond at the top of the LTA standings.
Finn beat the number one seed in the Winter Tour semi-final 6-4, 6-1 before losing a very tight final to Roberta Preka from Middlesex 6-4, 7-5.
He also represented Hertfordshire, as number one, in the LTA County Cup competition recently, winning all three of his singles matches.
Luke, now competing at under-14 level, played in his first European tournament over Christmas, beating the Italian national champion and number two seed en route to the quarter-finals.
This earned him a wild card to the International Teen Tennis in Bolton where he battled it out against older players before a narrow loss to the USA U14 number two 7-5, 6-2.
Luke's next challenge is the U14 Winter National Tour finals in Roehampton in February.
Sarah Thomas, Director of Tennis at the Prep School, said "We are very proud of both Luke and Finn's recent achievements on the tennis courts."
"They are both exceptional ambassadors for the school and look set to have very bright futures ahead of them."
