Snow day for Pre-Prep pupils
Millfield Pre-Preparatory School was transformed into a winter wonderland last week as thick snow settled in the playground, creating a magical play experience for the pupils.
The icy landscape was not a result of a microclimate at the school but rather the collective effort of the pupils and staff.
The idea was sparked when one young pupil brought his pop-up igloo to school to share with his friends, and the pupils began discussing winter themes.
They were inspired to create the snowy scene using the igloo, snow-like carpet and a pond where pupils could go ‘ice-fishing' for magnetic fish. A snow machine was brought in to add the final magical ingredient, and the pupils donned coats, scarves and hats to brave the wintry weather and enjoy an afternoon in the snow.
"It all started when we were looking at the letter ‘I' and one of the children brought in an igloo tent." said Bridget Boyd, the class teacher.
"We talked about what an igloo was made of and the people who would have lived in them. One of the children said that they had never seen snow, so we got a snow machine to put out in the winter wonderland. We had a great time."
