Olympic trial for Anna

Anna Pang has made history as the first ever swimmer from Millfield Preparatory School to qualify for an Olympic Trial.

She will take part in the 50m freestyle trial on Friday 9 March at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in London.

Anna qualified for the trial with a time of 28.62 as lead-off in a relay at the Arena league competition at Millfield in December.

The year-8 pupil, who will be hoping to take part in the 2016 or 2020 Great Britain Olympic squads, says freestyle is only one of her favourite strokes - she is aiming to qualify for two further trials. Events coming up in Cardiff and at the main Millfield pool will decide whether Anna qualifies for the 100 and 200-metre backstroke events.

Helen Gouldby, Head of Swimming at the Preparatory school, said "Anna is one of the most talented swimmers we've had here. She has an amazing feel for the water - her underwater phases are some of the best I've seen."

Anna says that that although she would like to become a professional swimmer, she is focussed on the immediate future. "I only want to get to the Olympics at the moment."
