Millfield Prep Swimming National Age Group Results
28th July -1st August 2010, Ponds Forge, Sheffield
Millfield Prep School swimmers were in great form over the summer racing at the British National Age Group Championships and competing against the top club swimmers in Great Britain, where they produced some magnificent swims.
Rio Kurihara aged 13 years who lives in Street and has attended Millfield Prep School since the age of three, progressing through the swimming school program, had another excellent National Age Group competition. Rio won the Top Boy Swimmer in Great Britain for the third consecutive year and won five individual gold medals in the following: 200m Breaststroke (2.28.19) in a Personal Best time (PB) by 11 seconds which was also a British Age Group Record, the 200m I.M (2.16.97) a PB by 5 seconds, the 100m Breaststroke (1.09.80) in a PB by 3 seconds, the 100m Butterfly (60.53) a PB by 3 seconds and the 400m I.M (4.47.38) in a PB by 11 seconds. Rio came 3rd in the 200m Freestyle (2.02.81) in a PB by 3 seconds and also won 2 gold's as a member of the boys' 4 x 200m freestyle relay and the 4 x 100m Medley relay team.
The age group championships culminated with Millfield being crowned the Boys Top Age Group Club in the country:

Mrs Helen Gouldby - Director of swimming at MPS was very proud of Rio and the boys team results. ‘Rio has been very special to us as he has come through the MPS learn to swim program with Mrs Linda Skirton and myself and next year progressing to the Senior School at Millfield. He was outstanding at the British Championships winning in great style and was the talk of the ‘meet'. He is definitely one to look out for in the future, Rio for Rio in 2016!'
