MPS National JET Rounders Winners
On arrival in Oxford we were told that our semi-final would be against Port Regis. From that moment the girls were determined that this would be our day. Megan found a lucky penny, which we used for the toss; we lost and were put into bat. With top scores from, Abiola , Ellie , Olivia and Jenny , MPS scored an excellent 18 rounders. Port Regis also hit well and had one excellent player, who scored 4 rounders in a row as the last batter. Their score was 17, which made for a very tense and exciting second innings. Again, another excellent batting innings gave MPS a total of 35 ½ rounders, with several hits leaving the pitch and threatening neighbouring buildings' windows. Port Regis started their second innings strongly but crumbled under the excellent bowling, back stop and first post combination. This meant a repeat of last year's final against Foremarke Hall.
Another spin of the lucky penny saw us lose the toss again and we were put into bat. The bowling and fielding from the opposition was excellent; but good scores from Phoebe , Ali and Anna gave us a total of 10 ½. Foremarke, in reply, struggled to produce any great consistency against our bowling and scored 7 ½. Still too close for spectators to relax and there were many cries of both horror and delight to come. The second innings only took our score to 16 ½ as we seemed to hit every ball to their best catcher. Foremarke, obviously now saw that the game could be theirs for the taking, however, great catches from Megan , Ellie and India helped secure the first 4 batters dismissal. Great cover work from Kathryn and Grace kept the scoring to a minimum. The innings was then crushed by superb bowling and backstop work from Ali and Jenny thus winning the game by 4 ½ rounders. A superb team effort in hot conditions and the first win in this competition since 2003.
Thank you to all the team for their superb support of each other and their determination to make the day a success.
